My first pictures were the hardest to photograph
![]() |
By Rafael Ben-Ari, Professional On Location Photographer My first pictures were the hardest to photograph, but as I shot more and more and developed my films, analyzed the negatives and printed my images, I managed to develop my eye and learn myself to shoot better images. |
I analyzed other photographers work and learned to master my equipment. I also learnt that it is not necessary to use the most expensive photographic accessories. It is important to master what you have first and every other equipment that will come your way will be easier and make photography more fun for you. On a warm day a simple hat and sunglasses may contribute more to breaking news photography than a fancy lens. On the way, you will learn that every time it is different and that you have to adapt yourself to the environment like a chameleon to get the right photo and practice is the key to success. Try to photograph something every day and carry your cameras everywhere you go, you never know what will happen in the very next moment like the September 11 events etc. Always look around you and develop your courage to take a step and get closer to your objects and subjects. Learn from your failures as from your success. If you are serious about photography this is the right place for you to start your professional career. Learn the standards of work and listen to your heart about what kind of photography you are after eg. photojournalism, architecture or portraiture. Master the photography field that you are interested in and then you will start to take pictures every day for the rest of your life. Remember, there is an unlimited range of images to take around you every day using only one camera and one lens and no two picture are the same. Best wishes on your way Rafael Ben-Ari
